Bus Touring With Kids
Bus Touring With Kids
Taking a tour on a bus is a great way to see the sights in any city you wish to visit. It may be a city nearby, or it may be a city anywhere in the world. It might be a tour that lasts less than a day or more than a week. No matter what kind of bus tour you take, you can find ways to bring your children along at discounted rates.
You can contact the visitors’ center in any city you are considering visiting. The easiest way to do this is to look the city up on the internet under “visitors’ center.” Doing so will open up a vast array of activities to do in the various cities.
Some of these activities are bus tours. At the visitors’ center sites themselves, you might find discounts on bus tours for kids. Even though these bus tours may not be city sponsored, they will still be listed as available activities.
San Diego offers some bus tours through Contact Tours. The prices are from about twenty-five to about fifty dollars for adults. Kids get a discount. Prices for them are from twelve to twenty-four dollars.
San Francisco also offers bus tours. Instead of using large buses, they use small shuttle buses. The prices are over sixty dollars for adults and around fifty dollars for kids. These are five hour tours and they include the cost of a ferry ride.
If you are going to Las Vegas, you might be looking for some activities you can share with your kids. A bus ride to the Grand Canyon would be an interesting mini-trip. If you check with travel sites relating to Las Vegas, you can find them.
One, for example, is a fifteen-hour bus trip from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon and back with scenic stops and stops for lunch and snacks. The price is just over one hundred dollars for adults. However, kids go for under ninety dollars and kids two years old and under go for free.
Global Coach Tours can be found on the internet. It is a site that offers several-day bus tours to international cities by several different companies. They offer many discounts. There is a special discount of five percent off for children and teens.
They also offer discounts for frequent travelers, advance payment, tour combinations, and groups. These price reductions are from five to ten percent off. You can check other bus tour sites and find the same types of discounts.
One thing to take note of, though, is that you must book and pay for your tour in full within the given time to get the advance payment reduction. Also, if prices change between the time you pay and the time you go, your price will change as well. You may get a refund if prices go down. If they go up, you’ll have to pay more.
For ordinary bus travel that doesn’t include tours, you can still get discounts. Check with the major bus carriers. Greyhound offers a forty percent discount for kids between the ages of two to eleven. Two children can travel with each adult for this reduced fare. Also, children under two ride free.
The whole family can spend quality time on a bus tour. It is also an inexpensive way to get from one place to another. Knowing about kids’ discounts is an important part of any family’s bus travel plans.

Impact Of The Global Recession On Your Vacations And Holiday Travel Destinations
Impact Of The Global Recession On Your Vacations
And Holiday Travel Destinations
© 2010 Teri Champigny, All Rights Reserved Worldwide.
Travel, especially when considering vacations, holidays, cruises and similar non-business travel, is always affected by economics, both macro and micro. Travel deals are made available as much on the basis of the strength or weakness of the local economy as they are on the basis of seasonal fluctuations, and the current travel costs are often a major deciding factor in choosing family vacation destinations.
So it should come as no surprise then that the global recession has had a major impact on travel patterns and vacation safety, an impact that is likely to remain for some time to come in many parts of the world. These are not minor effects, but rather important considerations you should take into account when planning vacations today.
Bad News For Travel Destinations is Good News For Vacationers
There has been a slow but constant erosion in the purchasing power of the average family in the western world for the last 15 or 20 years which has led many families to postpone vacations or travel locally – prompting the coining of the new travel term ‘stay-captions’. While many fringe locations and more esoteric travel destinations lost a lot of bookings, the major resorts and tourist attractions took this in stride for the most part. Witness the number of construction cranes at work in Las Vegas during the first decade of this century as a prime example.
But the sudden, historically-painful worldwide drop in cash, credit, jobs and confidence in the future that accompanied the global recession was of a scale and magnitude that left no area of travel untouched. Now even favorite travel destinations are feeling the pinch, and are scrambling to fill empty hotel rooms, under-booked flights and keep tourist attractions at least somewhat solvent until some relief emerges.
As a result many resorts, airlines and attractions are offering great discounts in an effort to win a larger share of those still taking foreign vacations, and local attractions are being forced to discount to try and keep that business local. This means that the areas most affected, prime vacation areas like Niagara Falls, Cuba, South Beach, the Caribbean islands, etc, are now offering vacations and holiday packages for surprisingly low rates.
Not all resorts, tourist areas or charter travel groups have reacted this swiftly though, so some due diligence is required in deciding where to take your vacations and which resorts to stay in when you arrive. Be sure to check both the online travel resources AND your local newspaper and travel agencies to see where you can book the best vacations for the best rate.
And where possible, be sure to consider only all-inclusive travel packages, as resorts may discount their rooms only to raise the price of meals in their dining room, knowing that even savvy tourists often price-shop resorts based on room rates alone.
As you shop for vacations and cruises, there are three main ways to use this situation to your advantage:
1) Take Your Normal Vacation and Save Money. - If you’re happy with the comfort, food and activities on your usual holidays, simply continue on as always but watch for the best deals, saving money travel, accommodations and food.
2) Upgrade Your Vacation. - Compare the costs of upgrading your vacation – first-class airline tickets, higher-star hotels and resorts, better restaurants, better or more attractions or any combination of these features. If you can still afford what you were spending each year for your vacation, you may find you can get a much better package this year thanks to all the discounts.
3) Extend Your Vacation. - In some areas, the discounts may be deep enough that you can extend your vacation for a second week. If you can afford the time away, it’s another great way to see more sites, build a better tan, or simply get some true rest so you don’t feel like you were never away shortly after returning to your stressful everyday life.
Caveat: One Travel Warning Though…
No travel tips article about the benefits to vacationers would be complete without a warning in this economic climate. Remember that many resort areas can offer great amenities because the cost of living is lower where they’re located than in your country, and this recession has been a global event. Greater poverty and greater crime levels have always gone hand-in-hand, and the current situation is no exception.
While large chains of resorts usually have sufficient security to keep you safe within their confines, that doesn’t extend out into the towns, cities and especially those oh-so-romantic secluded beaches favored by so many vacationers. And no matter where you travel these days, places where it’s safe to roam alone at night are almost non-existent even for young fit men or women trained in self-defense.
You can still have a great vacation, and right now you can have a more affordable vacation that at almost any time in recent memory – just be aware of the conditions in the country you’re visiting, exercise a prudent amount of caution on or off your holiday property, and make use of the local knowledge available from your hotel concierge, hotel manager or resort guest relations staff.
Enjoy your travels!

How To Stay Safe And Have Fun Traveling In Your RV
How To Stay Safe And Have Fun Traveling In Your RV
More and more people are planning road trips by RV. Many couples and families are finding motor homes a relatively affordable way to travel. Many also enjoy the option of traveling on the road while still having many of the comforts of home. This is particularly true with long distance trips. Whether your next RV trip is a long distance or a short distance trip, there are a number of steps that you can take to help ensure that your next trip is not only fun, but safe.
The first step in planning a fun and safe RV trip involves deciding on an intended route. This can help on a number of different levels. For safety, deciding on a route ahead of time gives you the opportunity to familiarize yourself with that area by examining maps. Even with an examination done beforehand, it is still important to bring a travel map with you. In fact, if you are an RV owner, a up to date map should be kept in your motor home at all times.
Deciding on an intended route ahead of time can also help you with activities and attractions. Many RV owners and renters are known for stopping along the way to participate in fun activities or to visit neat attractions, like flea markets, amusement parks, or museums. Researching what you can do and see before you leave for your RV trip can help to make sure that you will not miss out on anything fun and exciting. It can also help you create a travel budget for yourself.
Speaking of money, it is important to have extra money on hand, especially for long distance travels and trips. This is important for safety, as well as fun. Always remember that gas prices vary from city to city and from state to state. Money is also nice to have on hand if you ever decide to make any unexpected stops along the way, however, use caution. Do not carry too much cash on you or leave it all in one place. For travelers, traveler’s checks, debit cards, and credit cards are a great idea.
For safety, be sure to bring all needed documents with you. These documents should include the proper identification, like a driver’s license, and insurance cards, such as those for health and auto. Health insurance cards are particularly important. If you or anyone in your traveling party, like your family, suffers an injury, you will want to be able to get help and treatment right away. This is best done by having all proper documents, including health insurance cards, readily available.
As stated above, researching fun and popular activities and attractions that are along your intended route of travel is a great idea. Also, be sure to plan activities for the road. The good news is that you have a lot of options, as RVs give travelers more room than traditional cars. If a television is present, movies are a good option. Video games, board games, card games, and reading books are also great activities for the road.
For safety, be sure to use your best judgment. For example, does an area that you wish to stop at look dangerous or unsafe? If so, you may want to continue moving on and get gasoline or food at another place, when possible. It is also important to keep safety in mind when staying at an RV park or a public campground with motor home accommodations. Never invite strangers onto your RV, especially right away. If you are traveling with children, be sure to set ground rules.
keeping the above mentioned points in mind, your next RV trip is likely to be both fun and safe. Remember that fun and safety go hand in hand. You will all have a better time if you stay safe and healthy, and have a lot of fun along the way.

Adventure Travel for the Free-Spirited
Adventure Travel for the Free-Spirited
Adventure tourism or Extreme travel is now one of the fastest growing trends in travel business. It started with Leo Le Bon who co-founded the world’s first adventure travel company—Mountain Tours with other eight travel mates. Le Bon and others made the first commercial journey to the Annapurna region of Nepal. Since then, the travel business grew rapidly resulting to a plethora of travel companies that offer adventure vacations.
Classifying an adventure travel however pose a little difficulty in defining what exactly it means. Adventure travel depends on the level of strenuousness of activities involved. Adventure may involve leisure biking and hiking for some travelers or it may entail for the extreme traveler base jumping into an underground cave in Mexico.
Nevertheless, a travel involves some fundamental aspects to be classified as adventure. Adventure travel typically includes going to far-flung areas, intermingling with various cultures, and doing a physical activity.
Two categories of adventure travel are hard and soft adventures. Hard adventures fall under extreme and mostly dangerous sporting activity. Examples of hard adventures are rock climbing, surfing, paragliding, and scuba diving in remote locations. Soft adventures, on the other hand, are leisure activities that are often educational. It does not involve strenuous activity unlike hard adventures. Bird watching, religious pilgrimages and architectural tours fall under soft adventures.
But you might wonder who usually embark on an adventure travel? Travel Industry Association of America’s (TIA) study indicated an estimated 20 percent of adult travelers are adventure tourists. It is also parallel to The Wall Street Journal reporting in 2003 that revenues from adventure tourism has skyrocketed topping the adventure market with $245 million dollars.
While many studies say college-educated males in their 20s typically embark on hard adventures, it is harder to categorize people who go for soft adventures. They say baby boomers and seniors significantly affect the rise of number of soft travelers. However, adventure-seeking women have also substantially caused the continuous growing of the industry. For example, divorcees ages 40 and 60 usually turn to adventure travel as a shift into new lives.
In addition, adventure travels are physically and psychologically beneficial both men and women. Physical challenges like mountain climbing require both physical fitness and focus. It develops muscles as well as serves as an excellent mental workout. Achieving difficult tasks also help build self-esteem especially for people in midlife crisis.
There are several options to what kind of adventure travel fits a specific type of person. But you should determine first how adventurous you would like to be. A travel agency may actually help steer you through the multitude choices that you will face.
Sports-themed vacations are well-liked for athletes. Examples of these are baseball fantasy camps and NASCAR driving schools. Safari is one example of soft adventures popular to many of varying ages. This may involve driving and walking through the African plains and come into close contact with lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo.
Longtime popular destinations are the Seven Wonders of World that include biking and hiking to these locales. Some of the world wonders include pyramids of Egypt, expedition to Antarctica, cultural tour in Japan and Ethiopia, the Great Wall of China, and Taj Mahal in India.
If you opt to have an adventure travel however, be sure to be safe as much as possible. Take note that adventure travel has inherent danger involved.

All About The Atlas
All About The Atlas
Children going to school are usually introduced to an atlas when studying geography. They find out much about the world through the use of these types of maps. As the children become adults and start to travel, they may rely more on road maps and city maps to give them the information they need while traveling.
There are several differences between a road map and an Atlas, and each one serves their own purposes. A road map is a detailed map that shows most roads available to travel on in any particular location. Along with the roads, they often show items that would be of use to people traveling by automobile, such as rest stops and scenic locations. They can also tell a person traveling how far it is from one point to the next. These road maps either can be found for individual places, such as a state, or can be found in a book that includes maps of all fifty states.
An Atlas, like a road map is a book of maps. However, an atlas usually contains maps for many parts of the world, not just the United States. They are meant to give a person a broader understanding and perception of the world, not just the roads within certain destinations. An atlas also gives detail about locations such as the population and climate for a particular area.
An atlas will usually also tell the time zone of a particular location. This information may not be of interest to some people planning a trip, but for others it is very useful to know, especially those traveling to more then one location, the time zone information would be particularly useful to know. By looking at an atlas, a person can also find out information about cities and towns, not just where they are located.
For those interested in owning an atlas, either in preparation for an upcoming trip, or just for the educational benefits of studying one, there are several places to consider looking. The first place, which may be the most convenient for people is online. There are hundreds of websites that sell a wide variety of atlases. They can be purchased both used and new and there is a large price range depending on the type of atlas bought. Another good place to find and purchase is at an office supply store. There a person can find an atlas similar to those used in schools and other varieties as well.
While an atlas is generally in paper form, there are also forms available on CD, perfect for those who spend a lot of time on the internet or computer.
Travel maps come in a wide variety of styles. It is up to any person planning a trip, or just wanting to know more about places in general, to decide which information they are seeking and the best source for finding their answers. While road maps and atlases may contain some of the same information, it is clear that they are also unique and a wise person would want to search out the information contained on both of these types of maps.

The Basics of Road-Tripping
Road-Tripping (this means traveling by car for your trip) can be done for a variety of reasons, but whatever the motivating force behind the decision to go on a trip, some basic guidelines can be helpful. As with anything in life, use common sense.
Before you leave:
• Where exactly you are going and by what route .
(It could be possible that you have no specific destination; such is an acceptable answer). The idea here is to know what your purpose is. Usually it’s to get from point A to point B, but there are also many more complicated scenarios, such as “swing down to Baton Rouge to visit so-and-so, then head to Tucumcari for the la-de-da and finally head out to Boston by Oct 17th“ or “keep going east until I have $500 left”. You get the idea. The important thing is to know what you want to get out of the journey before you invest your temporary existence into it.
• Time constraints you may have.
Do you have to be there by certain date? Ought you be back home by a certain date? How fast can you go? How long will it take you to get to your destination? How much time will any tangents likely require? Perhaps you may research different modes of transport at this point. The less time constraints you have, the more freedom you have to relax and enjoy the journey.
• How you will attain food and shelter.
Food: Eating out? Packing for the journey? Hunting Insects? Shelter: Sleeping in hotels? Sleeping in the car? Sleeping in a tent? Couch-surfing? Any of these, or any combination, can be a valid choice. If you plan on eating out and/or staying at hotels, make sure to estimate the costs first and make sure it won’t bankrupt you.
• Finances.
Figure out how much money it’s likely to cost you to go on your trip, factoring in the difference in price in other geographic locales. If you’re not sure of the price differences of other geographic locales, estimate high. Actually, estimate high anyways. There are always unforeseen events for better or poorer, richer or worse. Make sure to estimate: Gas, for driving. Food, if you haven’t packed in abundance. The cost of expected lodging, whether it be camping, hotels, RV parks, or whatever. Entertainment, if you plan on stopping in some towns and cities and doing anything interesting that costs money. Don’t forget about your bills at home. If you are going on a very long trip or a trip of unknown length, you may want to consider automatic bill payments, or setting up several months in advance of payments.
Stay aware of these issues on your trip as well. It won’t do you a bit of good to plan everything out perfectly and then not realize that your food is disappearing twice as fast as you had anticipated, or other some such problematic eventuality. If you’re on a budget, pay attention to how much you spend each day to see whether you are likely to make it to your destination. Keep your goal in mind, but don’t be fixated on your goal.
Perhaps you’ll end up doing something completely different, who knows? That’s not always a bad thing. The important thing is to enjoy the journey. No matter what happens, you took that plunge, and you’ll remember it for the rest of your life. I’ll say it again because it is vital: enjoy the journey. It’s not all about the destination.
Useful Hints
- Get a really good road atlas.
- Talk to some people in various states you plan on passing thru beforehand (the internet is a wonderful thing) to get an idea for the area.
- Don’t take extra things you are not likely to need. If it is not helpful to you it is best left at home. This is especially true when traveling without your own vehicle to lug things around in.
- Bring a book. When you are done with it you can trade it for one you haven’t read yet.

Alternatives to Timeshares
Over the period of decades the popularity of timeshares has grown by leaps and bounds. So much so that over two million Americans have timeshare properties in country and out of country. But the rise of timeshare industry saw the rise in scams and frauds. More recently the timeshare industry has been plagued by unscrupulous activities of frauds and scammers. Notwithstanding, these serious problems with timeshares have a new breed of alternatives that are emerging. One of the main reasons why people were attracted towards timeshares was that it will be an expensive affair for a big family to vacation every year at a hotel or a resort. Timeshares proved to be an economical solution to all that.
But on the flip side of it, buying a timeshare requires large upfront fee and the timeshares typically range anywhere from ten thousand dollars to fifty thousand dollars. On top of that the buyers have to pay the annual maintenance fee, property taxes, management fee etc. which could range from few hundreds to over a thousand. People have begun to realize why pay more money and still use the same property every year for only one week plus people get bored of going to the same place again and again. Although some timeshares offer exchange program which would allow owners to exchange their timeshare units across different resorts and locations but it is not that easy with exchange costing more bucks. And when the owner wants to sell a timeshare unit it is not that easy task. Timeshares are one of the most difficult properties to sell. Even when they sell they sell at 30%-50% lower than their original price.
Now a new era of concepts is taking the vacation industry by storm. And this era is represented by concepts such as resort memberships. A resort membership is a one time investment i.e. you have to pay the membership fee only once and you can enjoy the benefits of the resort life long. And what more you are not required to pay any maintenance fee or taxes. Resort memberships can cost anywhere from few grand to few hundred grand. Some resort memberships may also have a yearly fee. But if you do your research there are some resorts within the range of affordability. The best deal that one can get is may be a lifetime member ship for around three grand and a limited five year membership for two grand. And the members have access to not only the resort they have membership in but they can choose from hundreds of resorts worldwide available in the resort company’s network. And there is no limit on number of times you want to go and at what time you want to go, your vacation is always assured.
Another concept that is getting popular is condo hotel which is a relatively new concept and only very few people own condos in hotels. But the concept is receiving good reviews and is gaining popularity with the time. The way it works is it allows people to buy condos in luxurious hotels and utilize the benefits of all the amenities available in the hotel. If the owner is not using the condo he can put his condo for rent and can receive percentage of the revenues it produces. A condo hotel in comparison to a timeshare offers more flexibility, is better furnished, and has better amenities, better services and many locations.
